Culture and Heritage
Culture is a system of behaviors, nature of interpersonal relationships, customs, manners, mores, and values developed over the millennia of history shared by people speaking different languages, following different faiths, observing a host of fairs, festivals, and rituals, and preserving specific cultural clues and cues. Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and Heritage is knowledge passed down from one generation to future generations. We are known to the world through our culture, tradition, and cultural heritage sites. Cultural heritage shows our identity, what we are, how we live, and what we do. These sites need protection and preservation from cultural or natural perspectives for contributing to humanity for which they are identified as World Heritage Sites. According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), 'World Heritage Site is a place (forest, mountain, lake, desert, monument, building, complex or even a city) that is listed by UNESCO as of special cultural or physical significance.'
Being the center point of the ancient trade route connection between the Indian subcontinent and the Tibetan autonomous region of China, the combination of Buddhism philosophy and Eastern philosophy developed in the local context, a land of peace and nature, the variation in elevation, being in between two highly populated nation China and India Nepal is an ethnical melting pot and ecological hotspot in the region. This natural and ethnic diversity had over the year helped developed Nepal as a unique cultural heritage with ancient temples dating back to the first century, built over the year through local knowledge and resource that had stood firm with time and different natural disasters. These tangible and intangible heritages, knowledge craft, art, and architecture are now sources of inspiration, knowledge centers, and wonder that attract tourists, researchers, and wonders from around the world to come to witness and learn.
People travel from one place to another not only for entertainment but to learn how the people of different societies live their life, and to learn about tradition and culture. The cultural heritage site reflects our culture, who we are, and what we do. Cultural heritage plays a vital role in income generation. International tourist is more interested in the old monument and heritage and they travel to Nepal in search of new and old culture because they don’t have this kind of tradition and culture in their society/country. Cultural heritage site solves their curiosity and quarries about the old monument, it reflects the art and craft of our ancestors.
Recently, Heritage sites are constantly being encroached upon by the state and are being destroyed in the name of development. Along there are many heritage sites that have less information and less promotion.
Besides providing insightful travel experience we aim to develop Leadership and actions on the conservation and promotion of Heritage sites while providing lifelong experience. Heritage Promoters of Nepal look to share and showcase our heritage and heritage knowledge with you. We believe in knowledge, in each journey, our travel companions will be locals who have been practicing culture and living, along had been studying different aspects of culture and its linkage. Our program does not focus on just showing beautiful culture and heritage of diversity. In each program special emphasis is to show the interlinking heritage and community, community as the life of these heritage sites and how it has deep-rooted meaning and influence in general life. We will connect you with meaning, and share different information and insights about each heritage site.
