The Tamang Heritage trail was developed in 2001-2004 under the Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Programme (TRPAP), by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), alongside DFID (Department for International Development) and SNV-Nepal. The program aimed to reduce poverty in the region by providing alternative income sources through rural tourism, through homestays, and community-led hospitality. This initiative has helped establish the area as a popular, sustainable trekking alternative, with a focus on preserving traditional Tamang architecture and culture, which was significantly impacted by the 2015 earthquake.
From April 30 - May 5 2026, We are going to explore Tamang Heritage Trails. To research benefits and challenges of Tourism, to enjoy the mountains, local culture and panoramic views.

The Tibetan Hamlets tucked in a mountain valley offer panoramic views of the Langtang, Ganesh, and Jugal Himal ranges. The indigenous Tamang culture, crafts, cuisine, and foot-tapping Selo music are the major attractions. This lower region near the Tibetan border of Langtang National Park features terraced fields, dense forests, and high-altitude pastures. Pastureland, yaks, and milk products supplement the dietary requirements of the Himalayan Trail in Nepal. Yak cheese is among the best produced in the world.
