Spiritual Experience: Buddha and Buddhism
EXPERIENCE BUDDHISM, EXPLORE THE INNER SELF, AND ENJOY NATURE.
-
Lord Buddha, born as Prince Siddhartha Gautama in 623 B.C. at Lumbini, situated at the base of the Chure range in the Tarai region of Nepal, was a teacher, philosopher, and spiritual leader recognised as the founder of Buddhism. The birthplace of Lord Buddha is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and serves as a pilgrimage destination for devotees, explorers, wanderers, researchers, and lovers of peace. At the base of the Chure range in the Tarai region of Nepal lies Lord Buddha's birthplace, as confirmed by the inscription on the pillar erected by the Mauryan Emperor Asoka in 249 B.C.
In addition to championing peace, contemplative values, and spirituality, Lumbini attracts naturalists, botanists, and zoologists with its rich natural biodiversity. It is home to 27 species of mammals, 44 types of fish, and herds of blue bulls. The natural landscapes and biodiversity in and around Lumbini include the tranquil environment of the Lumbini Crane Sanctuary, which features several natural wetlands, rivers, and farmland, all of which are suitable for birdwatching. The most iconic among them is the Sarus Crane, the tallest flying bird in the world, which holds a special place within the ancient culture of Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha.
