Culture & Celebrations

Culture is a system of behaviours, the nature of interpersonal relationships, customs, manners, mores, and values developed over millennia of shared history among people speaking different languages, following various faiths, observing a multitude of fairs, festivals, and rituals, and preserving specific cultural clues and cues. Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and it is knowledge passed down from one generation to the next. We are recognised by the world through our culture, traditions, and cultural heritage sites. Cultural heritage reflects our identity, who we are, how we live, and what we do. These sites require protection and preservation from cultural or natural perspectives because they contribute to humanity and are thus designated as World Heritage Sites. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) states that a 'World Heritage Site is a place (forest, mountain, lake, desert, monument, building, complex or even a city) listed by UNESCO as having special cultural or physical significance.'
